Assessment of economic impacts in flood events in Lages/SC, Brazil

Flood processes become increasingly harmful to communities due factors such as climate change and land use. This study aims evaluate the economic damages of flood events in an area urban basins Lages/SC. Thus, four plans were considered for evaluation: one referring conditions without protective measures three with application elevation structures at different heights, well two scenarios evolution occupation. The rainfalls obtained through Gumbel probabilistic model estimate maximum accumulated precipitations over 5 days, hydrological modeling carried out HEC-HMS. hydrodynamic was performed HEC-RAS simulation a 1D model. HEC-FDA used perform risk reduction analysis damage caused by floods, where expected annual (EAD) calculated proposed growth scenarios. results showed that mitigating measure raising reduced EAD up 83.10%. As scenario growth, there increase 62.09%, interval 20 years. has been demonstrated good software assessing floods scenarios, showing can help decision-makers development public policies.
